CamteX Wiki

Everything you need to know - from your first drawing to a finished PDF.

01

Getting Started

How do I log in to CamteX?

Enter your email address on the login page and we will send you a one-time 6-digit code. Type it in and you are done: we do not use passwords.

Can I use CamteX without registering?

Yes, to try it out: without an account you get 3 AI scans. An account (just an email, no password) gives you 10 free scans every month and lets you save projects.

What is the difference between Free and Pro?

The Free plan gives 10 AI scans per month and 3 saved projects. Pro ($4.99/mo) gives 250 scans and 20 minutes of dictation every month, 30 saved projects, and PDF and PNG export without CamteX branding.

02

Canvas

How do I draw a formula?

Draw a formula, table or chart on the canvas and click "Recognize". The result goes straight into the document, which scrolls to it and highlights it for a moment.

Can I use a photo of my notes or a screenshot?

Yes. Click the image icon in the canvas toolbar, drag a file onto the canvas or paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V. On a phone you can take a photo with the camera.

How does the eraser work?

The eraser removes parts of the drawing instead of painting over them. Press E to switch to it and P to go back to the pen.

How do I change the zoom?

Use the "+" and "−" buttons in the canvas toolbar or the + and - keys. Zoom ranges from 50% to 300%. On a narrow screen the buttons are in the pen and view settings panel.

Does the canvas work on tablets and phones?

Yes. You can draw with a finger or a stylus and change the zoom with a two-finger pinch.

How do I add another page?

The page counter at the bottom of the canvas has a "New page" button. Use the same counter to move between pages.

How do I hide the canvas or the document?

Use the arrows on the border between the two panels. On a phone or a narrow screen, switch with the "Canvas" and "Editor" buttons at the top.

03

AI Recognition

How does recognition work?

When you click "Recognize", the canvas image is sent to an AI engine (Google Gemini or Mathpix), which returns LaTeX, a table or a chart. We do not keep the image longer than the recognition takes.

What are variants?

For each line the AI gives several readings. "More" shows the others. A calculation without variables gets an extra variant with the computed result.

What does the question mark next to my drawing mean?

The AI was not sure about one of the symbols. Click the question mark and type what it is, and the result will be corrected.

How many scans do I get per month?

Free plan: 10 scans. Pro plan: 250. The limit renews every month.

What can the AI recognize?

Math formulas (fractions, integrals, matrices, sums), tables, charts and handwritten text.

Can I dictate instead of drawing?

Yes, on the Pro plan. The microphone has two modes: "Command" carries out a request (e.g. "plot a parabola") and "Dictation" writes down what you say word for word. One recording can be up to 60 seconds long. Without voice minutes, the microphone tells you it is a Pro feature before recording anything.

04

Document and code

What is the difference between "Document" and "Edit Code"?

"Document" shows the finished look and lets you edit the content like in a word processor. "Edit Code" shows the Markdown and LaTeX source with command suggestions.

How do I change text or a formula in the document?

Double-click a paragraph to edit its text, or a formula to open its code. A single click selects a block: you can then change its size, alignment and width.

How do I move a paragraph, table or chart?

Select the block and drag it to a new place, or press Alt+Shift+arrow. Grab tables and charts by the handle at their edge.

How do I insert a table, a matrix or a symbol?

Use the "Symbols", "Headings", "Table" and "Matrix" buttons in the toolbar above the document. Click a cell of an inserted table to edit it.

What is "Lab" for?

For lab reports: it calculates the mean and uncertainties, uncertainty propagation and linear regression with a chart, and turns data from a CSV file or a spreadsheet into a table.

How do I know how many pages the PDF will have?

The document shows dashed lines where pages break, and the counter at the bottom shows the current page. For a full LaTeX document the page breaks are approximate.

05

Projects and collaboration

How do I save a project?

Use the "Save project" button in the top bar: enter a name and, optionally, a folder. The next save overwrites the open project and adds a version to its history.

Can I have multiple projects?

Yes. The Free plan allows 3 saved projects and Pro allows 30. Each project has its own canvas and editor content.

Can I go back to an older version?

Yes. Version history keeps up to 20 versions of a project on the Free plan and up to 50 on Pro, and you can restore any of them.

What happens if I close the tab without saving?

The draft is saved in your browser. Next time you open the editor, we will offer to restore it.

How do I share a document?

The share icon copies a link to a saved project to the clipboard. Anyone with the link can view the document in read-only mode without logging in.

How do we work on a document together?

Click "Room", create a room and send the 6-character code to others. A room holds up to 3 people on the Free plan and up to 10 on Pro, including the owner.

06

Export

What formats can I export to?

PDF, DOCX (Word) and PNG, plus export to Overleaf as an editable project. You can also copy the LaTeX code from the code view.

Is there a CamteX mark on exports?

On the Free plan, PDF and PNG exports carry a discreet CamteX line. The Pro plan exports without it.

How is the PDF made?

A regular document is turned into a PDF in your browser. A full LaTeX document (with \documentclass) is compiled by a TeX Live server and you download the finished file.

How do I open the document in Overleaf?

Click "Overleaf". The document opens there as a new project with a complete LaTeX preamble.

07

Interface

How do I change the theme?

Use the sun or moon icon in the top bar. Your choice is saved in the browser.

Which languages does CamteX support?

Ten: Polish, English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic and Chinese. Change the language with the globe icon.

Where is the top bar?

In the editor it is collapsed to leave room for your work. The arrow at the top of the screen expands it.

How do I report a bug or an idea?

Use the "Feedback" button. Describe the issue and add your email if you would like a reply.
